Reducing Spasticity and Pain in MS with Medical Cannabis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system, leading to symptoms such as muscle stiffness, spasms, and pain. While there is no cure for MS, there are treatments available to manage symptoms and slow the progression of the disease. One such treatment that has gained attention in recent years is medical cannabis.

Medical marijuana has been found to provide relief from many of the symptoms of MS, including pain, spasticity, and bladder dysfunction. In addition, some studies have suggested that medical cannabis may have neuroprotective effects, meaning it could potentially slow the progression of the disease itself.

A 2020 study published in the Journal of Neurology found that medicinal cannabis significantly reduced spasticity and pain in patients with MS. Another study published in the European Journal of Pain in 2021 found that medical marijuana was effective in reducing pain and improving quality of life in patients with MS.

It is important to note that while medicinal marijuana has shown promise in managing symptoms of MS, it is not a cure and should not be considered a replacement for other treatments recommended by a healthcare provider.

If you or anyone you know is interested in treating MS symptoms through a medical marijuana card, consult a physician today.
